Airbnb, the company that lets users rent their apartments and homes to others, found itself working overtime this weekend to help a New York man whose apartment ended up being used for an adult party.
Ari Teman, who identifies himself as a comedian on Twitter, messaged the company through Twitter on Saturday after discovering that the person he had rented his Manhattan apartment to had used it for an “XXX Freak Fest.”
As recounted by a blog posted on Tumblr and a report by Gawker, Teman agreed to rent his apartment to a man who has been identified only as “David.” Teman went out for dinner and returned to his building to pick up a suitcase before leaving the city for the weekend.
Upon returning, Teman found David in the building lobby and heard him telling others “they’re shutting us down.” Teman quickly began investigating the Gmail address and phone number David had provided and found that the number was associated with tweets that had been sent promoting an “XXX Freak Fest” at his apartment.
At least it wasn’t a XXX Donkey Fest.

My mind is filled with ghosts
They’re more than most of all my loves gone wrong
My mind should be the way
Most people say that I should just move on
My mind is focused on
Things past and gone when I have no control
I can’t forget there used to be
I used to see but now no more
Think I’m living in a past life…
In a past life, too,
it’s a kind of thing that
Catches up to you
I guess I just believe that
It’s the thing to do
So here’s a little feedback
You gotta wear those shoes
No one said it would be easy
Sometimes it is hard to do
It isn’t like the TV
You see the cold hard truth
And the things you see in movies
Just don’t come true
So here’s a little feedback
You gotta wear your shoes
I will live a half-life
It’ll have to do
Now you can have a love life
You have loved me, too
You can see me in the evening
When the weather’s cool
But here’s a little feedback
You gotta wear the shoes

When I was younger I pictured myself ending up like this, not driving a desk.

At 20 feet long, the polar-dwelling Nanuqsaurus hoglundi measured about half the size of T. rex, a new study says.
A great discovery came in a small package for paleontologists who’ve unearthed a new species of tiny tyrannosaur in northern Alaska.
I was thinking “how adorable, a pygmy dino” until I read that it was still 20 feet long.

I could lift you up
I could show you what you wanna see
And take you where you wanna be
You could be my luck
Even if the sky is falling down
I know that we’ll be safe and sound
We’re safe and sound
I could fill your cup
You know my river won’t evaporate
This world we still appreciate
You could be my luck
Even in a hurricane of frowns
I know that we’ll be safe and sound
Safe and sound
We’re safe and sound
Safe and sound
We’re safe and sound
Hold your ground
We’re safe and sound
Safe and sound
I could show you love
In a tidal wave of mystery
You’ll still be standing next to me
You could be my luck
Even if we’re six feet underground
I know that we’ll be safe and sound
We’re safe and sound
Safe and sound
Safe and sound
Hold your ground
Safe and sound
I could lift you up
I could show you what you wanna see
And take you where you wanna be
You could be my luck
Even if the sky is falling down
I know that we’ll be safe and sound
I could lift you up
I could show you what you wanna see
And take you where you wanna be
You could be my luck
Even if the sky is falling down
I know that we’ll be safe and sound
We’re safe and sound
I love this song.. “Even in a hurricane of frowns, I know that we’ll be safe and sound.”

What hardware do you use?
My tools for national security consulting are primarily a semi-auto .22 rifle with a silencer. They are virtually completely silent and can pierce car doors and other light armor. They are perfect for urban environments.
My accessory tools are mostly extremely strong espresso and research chemicals from China that are classed as “Smart Drugs”. They allow me to solve 2nd order partial differential equations in my head and to spontaneously create 4 dimensional images of software structures that I can mentally manipulate.
I also do my most productive security designs while having extended sex. I apologize if you think I am pulling your legs but, God’s truth, these are the facts.
I used McAfee products for a couple of years in the mid/late 90s but never learned that much about the company, never paid that much attention other than the Intel acquisition in 2010. Good to see there’s a little flair in this otherwise nerd story.
In related news: McAfee Identity Crisis Contest.

When Jason Barnes was electrocuted two years ago, he lost the lower half of his right arm, seemingly ending his dreams of being a drummer — but thanks to a new prosthetic he’s able to finally achieve that goal. Barnes initially built his own makeshift device so that he could still drum, but eventually partnered with Georgia Institute of Technology professor Gil Weinberg to build a robotic version. He tried it out for the first time last week, telling New Scientist that “it was pretty awesome.”
Reminds me a little of Fucking Robots Playing the Ace of Spades.
