Kitchen table - horror edition 2016

tcr! · Nov 13, 2016 at 2:13 pm

Kitchen breakfast table 1

My kitchen table was 23.5” x 36” and that was a smidge too small for more than two people.

The one good thing about buying a house from the early 80s that multiple families have lived in is that there’s all kinds of hidden treasures.

I found a handful of boards in the garage rafters, cut them to size, nailed them down, and now the table is 26” x 48” or so. It’s kinda farmhouse but I like it.

I may dig out some of my black and white horror magazines, cut out 10-15 movie titles/monsters and then mod podge them to the top.

You know, because that’s what you do when you’re me. 😉

Sweet dino tattoo

I just realized my Jurassic Park t-rex has a sweet tattoo on his thigh. I might need the same. 🤔

Crazy on You (live) by Heart

tcr! · Nov 12, 2016 at 11:34 am

Peeps, here’s your with-bombs-and-the-devil jam for this sunny Saturday. Warning: there’s a gypsy/magician looking performance ahead.

I get Pavlovian chills when this comes on. Hearing Nancy Wilson’s opening acoustic makes me feel like a winding top and then Ann Wilson comes in with her soothing vocals, it’s some kind of deranged magic for my soul

I remember thinking about the second verse in another life, just on its own. Associating love with crazy is what happens when you’re heartbroken.

Anyways, often times I’ll watch guitarists’ fret hand to see what their fingers are doing but in this particular performance, Nancy’s right hand is what makes her part come alive to me. She’s murdering that guitar body. The electric riffs are killer, too.

Watch any band on The Midnight Special during this era, you won’t be disappointed if you grew up on 70s rock.

And don’t miss Nancy’s kick at 5:09. 😉

The most likely Trump reality

tcr! · Nov 11, 2016 at 6:31 am

TRUMPOPOLY

President Trump: The Hangover - I, Cringely

George W. Bush was another President partial to bombast and we survived him. Trump might be a nightmare but maybe the instincts of the electorate are correct and we need someone to do a cannonball in the pool, getting everyone wet. In the long run he’ll get very little done because he doesn’t know how government really operates and his helpers aren’t that helpful. It’s in the short run that he’ll really shake things up, not by doing anything, but through people imagining what he might do. Imagination tends to be worse than reality.

he’s gonna shake things up with monumental F/U’s galore! his helpers are not only not helpful, they’re counter-productive. as of this key stroke, he’s contacted the leader of a place our allies do not recognize. (there’s a million sub-plots to this one, but the gist is that he’s clueless to how inappropriate this was. World Peace hangs on a tenuous thread.)

i wasn’t prepared. i’m worried i’m gonna start caring again and i’m too tired and tested for all that.

Peace out, Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen, Epic and Enigmatic Songwriter, Is Dead at 82

Leonard Cohen, the Canadian poet and novelist who abandoned a promising literary career to become one of the foremost songwriters of the contemporary era, has died, according to an announcement Thursday night on his Facebook page. He was 82.

Mr. Cohen’s record label, Sony Music, confirmed the death. No details were available on the cause. Adam Cohen, his son and producer, said: “My father passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles with the knowledge that he had completed what he felt was one of his greatest records. He was writing up until his last moments with his unique brand of humor.”

All my heroes are dying 😞 “the master of erotic despair”

Only on Mondays and Wednesdays

Audio (MP3): 20161110 - Only on Mondays and Wednesdays

Video (MP4): 20161110 - Only on Mondays and Wednesdays

What I wrote about Trump and the people who voted for him the day after the 2016 election, I’ve been thinking about that more. Thinking about it more because I was more than annoyed when I wrote it and because I have life long friends who voted for him. And, most importantly, I’ve been thinking about it because I try to self-correct as needed.

Thanks for voicing my sentiments. I privately mourn the outcome of this election. I also believe that unity is extremely important, and I believe that anyone who can take small steps to help heal, whether one voted for Trump or Hillary, I ask they please do so. It’s unreasonable to expect those who feel absolute horror over a Trump presidency to suck it up and move on in the days after the election. Rage, grieve, cry, do whatever it takes. We will have to get to work and quickly. There is apparently an amendment to the DEFENSE contract, HR 4909 put forth by Rep. Russell from Oklahoma, that will allow contractors to the government to discriminate against the LGBTQ community.

Not being a reader of legalese, I can’t immediately see how this will work, but anyone who wants to can read it here. Having a Republican majority in the house, senate, etc. will unfortunately mean we will have to fight tooth and nail to keep the advancements we have made in the past 8 years. I hope people who support love, equality, equity, harmony, peace, and education will be willing to work hard to keep our gains.

First of all, you’re not a horrible person in private. Second of all, you do not act morally Superior. Third of all you are humble enough to self-correct! Love you

You are and have always been one of you favorite people on this planet. The thought that you might dislike me due to a difference in politics really bummed me out. I know I have to reconsider things I post when I am annoyed often. Like when I call someone morally superior. 😑

tcr! tcr! · Nov 11, 2016 at 8:19 am

I didn’t mean to come across as not liking people based on their poliitical vote. I have many great friends (you included) and relatives who voted Republican this year. I was just throwing a fit because I wasn’t ready for Trump to be president the morning after. I’m also happy that you called me out publicly. I need that sometimes. 😉

Thanks everybody. I don’t think it’s 100% accurate to say Hillary “stole” the nomination from Bernie. It’s a complicated process, some would call “rigged”. I can be wrong too. For example, I wasn’t the least bit prepared for this to happen. I’m getting over it. Oh yeah, I should add that Bernie was my first pick. And that I am proud to have voted for Hillary, who’s made mistakes, just like me.

I re-read the comments, with special attention to those of TLC. Where would any of us be without the transcending power of forgiveness? I’m going to assume that the public figures we’ve discussed are just as worthy as me and you, et al. Peace and popsicles for everyone. Purple for me.

Why Trump Won

tcr! · Nov 10, 2016 at 8:54 am

Dear Democrats, Read This If You Do Not Understand Why Trump Won

Dear Democrats, Read This If You Do Not Understand Why Trump Won

Wikileaks has a 10-year record of never releasing a single falsified document, and is not connected to Russia. Everything they released were the actual e-mails of Hillary Clinton and her campaign staff. You had the opportunity to look through a window into the Hillary Clinton campaign, but you didn’t.

By ignoring the leaks, you ignored reality.

By not listening to your fellow Americans, and accusing them of being “conspiracy theorists” and trusting the corporate media, you ignored reality. By only following other liberals on social media, and only reading liberal or corporate news, once again ignoring reality. When Hillary Clinton was caught rigging the primary against Bernie Sanders, and Democrats nominated her anyway they ignored reality.

A friend sent the above to me last night. Below is how I replied to her message.

That’s a good read. I was telling Maggie earlier that Hillary shouldn’t have even been the nominee.

Our country is so fucked up that often times it feels pointless. But I just try to be the best me I can for Maggie’s sake. Her generation will be so much better than ours.

I’m replying to something you posted on November 10th, so that isn’t fair. Don’t sue me. :).

I’m wary of anyone with self-righteous indignation because I know how I get when I’m that way, which is often. I’m referring to the author of “Dear Democrats”, no one else. I’m not being as much of a smart as I sound like when I say that it is a complicated process, some might call “rigged”.

It’s not hard science, ok, but Hillary felt betrayed when Obama defeated her. She must have felt a little like America feels about Trump winning. I voted for Obama but only after he won the nomination. I am only slightly chagrined to admit that I didn’t support Obama because I didn’t think he could win. The last 8 years did wonders for my soul.
“Wonders for my soul” means that I came to support and respect Obama and felt completely rejuvenated about the spirit of liberal democrat politics.
Hillary learned how to play on a very nasty playground.
She only knows the rules she was taught. BTW, Bill Clinton is/was a 2 way tie for my favorite president.
Living in this glass house makes it very hard for me to throw too many rocks.
The whole “Hillary is crooked and nasty too” argument? PHFFFT!
Because I don’t pray, I will hope really hard that Trump is only half as bad as he sounds. If he’s only half as bad, things will be horrific. Instead of what comes after horrific.
