Photo of rush hour traffic and the man

Peeps, here’s a photo I took of rush hour traffic yesterday while driving home.

I also inadvertently took a photo of a police SUV WATCHING MY EVERY MOVE.

Sean Spicer: “No, that’s above my pay grade”

tcr! · Mar 9, 2017 at 12:19 pm

Daring Fireball: Trump Has Proven Himself Unfit

Glenn Thrush and Maggie Haberman, reporting for The New York Times on the fallout from Donald Trump’s completely unsubstantiated claim that Barack Obama had Trump’s “wires tapped” during the election:

So for Mr. Trump’s allies inside the West Wing and beyond, the tweetstorm spawned the mother of all messaging migraines. Over the past few days, they have executed what amounts to a strategic political retreat — trying to publicly validate Mr. Trump’s suspicions without overtly endorsing a claim some of them believe might have been generated by Breitbart News and other far-right outlets.

“No, that’s above my pay grade,” said Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary and a feisty Trump loyalist, when asked on Tuesday at an on-camera briefing if he had seen any evidence to back up Mr. Trump’s accusation. The reporters kept at him, but Mr. Spicer pointedly and repeatedly refused to offer personal assurances that the president’s statements were true.

“I don’t know anything about it,” John F. Kelly, the homeland security secretary, said on CNN on Monday. Mr. Kelly shrugged and added that “if the president of the United States said that, he’s got his reasons to say it.”

How’s this for a reason: Donald Trump is not mentally fit. He is unhinged from reality. Many of us have said this ever since the election began, and were dismissed as being blinded by partisanship. Now that he’s in office, Trump is proving it by his own words and deeds.

He’s a delusional psychopath on Twitter

Trump accuses Obama of wiretapping on Twitter

One good thing to come from this is Mark Hamill reading Trump’s wiretap tweets in his Joker voice

PS- In case you didn’t know, Hamill is the voice actor for The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. Yes, the show is good and so is Hamill’s take on The Joker.

PPS- I keep seeing the title as Sean Spicer: “No, thatโ€™s above my gay parade” — ๐Ÿ˜

Just What I Needed by The Cars

tcr! · Mar 9, 2017 at 10:58 am

Peeps, here’s your you-look-so-fancy Thursday jam.

These guys are one of the few bands I’ve been listening to for as long as I can remember. At one time I had two of their 8-tracks in my high school car. Because 8-tracks.

Benjamin Orr (vocals, bass) looks like he’s darkly-cool ready to star in the next Flash Gordon.

Also..we should all teleport back to 1978 for this show. Like today.

Is Rey a Kenobi or a Skywalker??

tcr! · Mar 9, 2017 at 7:48 am

Rey returning Lukes lightsaber

Last night…

Me: I think Rey is related to Obi-Wan. The Kenobis haven’t had a family yet. What do you think?

Maggie: I don’t think so. I think she’s related to Luke. The whole Star Wars saga is about the Skywalkers.

Me: That’s a good point.

This morning…

Msg'ing about Reys origin

She’s quick with The Google.

My current fave speculation: Rey is Luke’s daughter and Kenobi’s granddaughter →

Indiana Jones 5 coming in 2019

tcr! · Mar 8, 2017 at 12:44 pm

Indiana Jones 5 is Official and Arriving in 2019

Indiana Jones 5 is Official and Arriving in 2019

Almost ten years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull hit theaters and after years of promises and rumors and dead-ends, it’s official: Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones, the two-fisted archaeologist with a thing for punching Nazis and recovering ancient artifacts, is returning for a fifth film due out in a little over two years.

According to an official statement on the Walt Disney Company’s website, the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie will arrive on July 19, 2019 and the whole gang is getting back together. Harrison Ford will return as Indy, Steven Spielberg will step behind the camera once more, and Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce. Here’s what you need to know from that statement:

Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

I’m pleased that Harrison Ford is coming back and this didn’t turn into a reboot with Bradley Cooper.

With that said, Harrison is 74. I also kinda hope they call it something as simple Indiana Jones 5.

45 minutes to caramelize onions

tcr! · Mar 8, 2017 at 12:41 pm

Google's Algorithm Is Lying to You About Onions and Blaming Me for It

Google’s Algorithm Is Lying to You About Onions and Blaming Me for It

A little under five years ago, I got angry about a piece of fake information, and I decided to do something about it. I was reading a recipe in the New York Times, and the recipe told me, as many, many recipes had told me before, that it would take about 10 minutes of cooking to caramelize onions.

I knew from personal experience that this was a lie. Recipes always said it took 5 or 10 minutes to caramelize onions, and when you followed the recipes, you either got slightly cooked onions or you ended up 40 minutes behind schedule. So I caramelized some onions and recorded how long it really took—28 minutes if you cooked them as hot as possible and constantly stirred them, 45 minutes if you were sane about it—and I published those results on Slate, along with a denunciation of the false five-to-10 minute standard.
