Mo Brooks and his sea level rock theory

tcr! · May 19, 2018 at 8:47 am

GOP lawmaker says rocks falling into ocean to blame for rising sea levels

GOP lawmaker says rocks falling into ocean to blame for rising sea levels

A Republican lawmaker on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee said Thursday that rocks from the White Cliffs of Dover and the California coastline, as well as silt from rivers tumbling into the ocean, are contributing to high sea levels globally.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) made the comment during a hearing on technology and the changing climate, which largely turned into a Q&A on the basics of climate research.

Climate scientist Philip Duffy testified before the panel, addressing lawmakers’ questions about climate change, according to E&E News. “The rate of global sea-level rise has accelerated and is now four times faster than it was 100 years ago,” Duffy told the panel.

Brooks said that erosion played a factor in that.

“Every time you have that soil or rock or whatever it is that is deposited into the seas, that forces the sea levels to rise, because now you have less space in those oceans, because the bottom is moving up,” Brooks said at the hearing.

“I’m pretty sure that on human time scales, those are minuscule effects,” responded Duffy, president of the Woods Hole Research Center in Massachusetts and a former senior adviser to the U.S. Global Change Research Program, responded.

It’s gotten to the point where I have a hard time paying attention to what politicians are saying and doing these days.

Rocks and erosion made the sea level go up? Really? That’s logic a child would use and not someone on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee.

I’ve heard people talk about eating dandelion leaves before. I’ve never done it personally because of my disdain though. What do you make of it?

Mannia · May 19, 2018 at 10:58 am

I never tried it either, just trying to give you options, lol.

Saturated, colorful clematis

Saturated colorful clematis

And on this 18th day of May nature said lettuce have more flowers, specifically the saturated, colorful clematis. And the peeps of the world drew in a beautiful breath and embraced the brilliance.

And then on a related note the man said, “If life is fleeting then that is irrelevant. In this minute let life’s focal point be the vibrancy.”

Trombone in the blue room

tcr! · May 18, 2018 at 7:40 am

When Sara and I were up in Galena I found and bought a trombone at an antique store. Same store I got the looney bin room numbers.

And then I hung up the trombone in the blue room with a curtain holdback hook. Because of course that’s what you do. I was gonna put it above the window but Sara said maybe beside. Of course her idea was better.

I blew it a little when I got home and I sounded just about as good as I did when I was ten and played one in school.

Route around the struggles

Aquarius Professional Water Flosser

I talk about my dentist now and then because he and his staff are part of my life. And I talk about what’s going on that’s had some kind of impact on me. Granted, sometimes I talk about shit that doesn’t have an impact but whatever.

So anyways awhile back my dentist said he wanted me to use a water flosser to get below the gum line. I brush my teeth and use floss picks because that’s what I do but obviously if he said I should use the Waterpik® then what I do is not enough.

This belongs on that other page but:
I have been to the Dentist with whisky on my breath and the whisky wasn’t the best part of that show. I can’t believe he let me drive home. I’m not a fan of suing someone for over-serving me so I don’t hold a grudge but I also don’t go to that dentist anymore. Life has been…forgiving is an accurate word. So far.

Pai’s net neutrality repeal overturned by the Senate

tcr! · May 16, 2018 at 6:29 pm

Senate votes to overturn Ajit Pai’s net neutrality repeal

Senate votes to overturn Ajit Pai’s net neutrality repeal

The lobby groups complained that net neutrality rules don’t apply to “the practices of edge providers, such as search engines and social media platforms.” That’s no surprise, because the FCC regulates telecommunications networks and net neutrality rules apply specifically to broadband networks—websites and online services are regulated separately by the Federal Trade Commission.

Markey said that net neutrality rules are needed because of events like Comcast throttling BitTorrent traffic and AT&T blocking Skype and other voice applications that compete against its mobile phone service.

“Net neutrality is the free speech issue of our time,” Markey said.

Large majorities of both Democratic and Republican voters support net neutrality, Markey noted. Thousands of small businesses wrote to Congress in support of net neutrality, and “millions of Americans sent letters, posted tweets, and made calls defending net neutrality,” he said.

This ❤️❤️❤️
