Hyacinthus is a small genus of bulbous, fragrant flowering plants in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae. These are commonly called hyacinths /ˈhaɪəsɪnθs/. The genus is native to the eastern Mediterranean (from the south of Turkey through to northern part of the region of Palestine).
God, take me where you want me to go, teach me what you want me to learn, let your will override mine. Keep me on the spiritual path, help me love the other humans.
It’s usually a variation of that anyway. Sometimes I say them before I leave the house. Sometimes I say them when I’m driving to work. Some days I mean every word and other days I’m just mouthing the letters.
Some days I don’t say them at all.
But it’s simple. I’m not Saint Francis over here. And most importantly, they remind me that I’m not El Presidente.
It’s also the only podcast I’ve listened to more than twice. The episode is one of those things that changed everything. It’s become part of my spiritual condition. The notion that I can quit has become part of who I am.
We’re all familiar with the dogmatic mantra:
Winners never quit.
That’s all fine and good if we play football but not if we’re dying inside because our life is horrible.
