Star Wars Characters in Paint Splatter Style

Star Wars Characters in Paint Splatter Style

What do you get when you combine a self-proclaimed geek with comic book obsessions with a talented French graphic designer? Fortunately for us, we get a series of awesome Star Wars Character splatter paint creations by artist Arian Noveir. Formed digitally, all of the Star Wars characters that we know and love (or love to hate), including Darth Vaider, Yoda, C3PO, and Chewbacca, get just the right smattering of color around their basic shape revealing a unique portrait ready to hang on your wall.

Weird that Vader looks like he’s being shot, blood splatters and all.

NY Botanical Garden Recreating Monet’s Garden

tcr! · May 19, 2012 at 8:26 am

Monet's Garden at the New York Botanical Garden

“Monet’s Garden” at the New York Botanical Garden

After Monet died, his gardens and home at Giverny fell into disrepair despite the efforts of his family to keep them up. But in the late 1970s, the estate underwent a full restoration and is now a mecca for nature painters and tourists, who visit at a rate of 500,000 a year.

If you have never been there and do not plan a trip anytime soon, you might consider a jaunt to the Bronx to take in “Monet’s Garden” at the New York Botanical Garden for a taste of what you are missing. Organized by Paul Hayes Tucker, the Monet scholar, it is not a painting show, though it does include two representative garden-inspired Monet canvases.

I like flowers and shit.

Popperfont - Evolutionary Biology of the Unicorn

tcr! · May 17, 2012 at 11:40 am

The evolutionary biology of the unicorn.

The evolutionary biology of the unicorn.

Unicorns are great. Seriously.

And here I’m going to think out loud and think of them in a conventional biology sort of way. You know – have a little fun evolution wise.

In many respects (except for the magical powers bit) I don’t think this is necessarily too hard to do. i.e. you have something that looks like a horse, but hey what’s this – there’s also a horn there.

I guess the question I’m pondering is whether a unicorn could occur from a realistic evolutionary biology point of view – you know, given the right circumstances and the right timescale. And if so, exactly what sort of things, biologically and genetically, would need to happen?

Remember kids, “biology” is the topic, not fantasy-magical-whimsy.
