I say again, GODDAMN it’s beautiful outside! 41°F and sunny - not bad for January in Illinois.

Whoa — Updates on Jurassic Park 4, Community, Louis C.K.

tcr! · Jan 18, 2013 at 10:59 am

News Roundup: ‘Jurassic Park 4’ Gets 2014 Release Date, New ‘Community’ Promo, And More

Today, Universal announced that it plans to release Jurassic Park 4 next year. They don’t even have a director yet, but they’ve got an official distribution date. They must be pretty confident in their script then (and they should be since it’s by the same duo that brought you Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Also, for those of you who’ve missed Community as much as we have, NBC unleashed a brand-new promo clip in which the Greendale gang parodies The Hunger Games. It’s perfect! And Louis C.K. is in talks to join David O. Russell’s next movie, which includes people like Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams yo!

Nice mixed bag selection of TV and movie news.

I saw both Jurassic Park 1 and 2 in the theater and read both books. The former and the latter were top notch. Michael Crichton was near genius. I pretend like the 3rd installment never happened.

Community is beyond hysterical and the Dean is worthy of any top 10 sitcom character lists.

“And to think I trusted him enough to let him ride on a magic carpet in my dreams.”

What else? Louis C.K.

  • stand up— stomach hurt hilarious
  • tv show— brilliant
  • internet— brought buying comedy shows online to the forefront of cool

Those were the big ticket items in the linked article for me.

So the painter had the biblical folk on the radio while he was working in our office today.

Can I get a hail Jeebus, ya’ll?

Chicago’s Stern Pinball - the Only REAL One on the Planet

Inside one of the last pinball factories in the world

Inside one of the last pinball factories in the world

As I walked into Stern Pinball’s modest facility in Melrose Park, Illinois shortly before Christmas last year, a loud buzzer went off. Dozens of workers streamed past, heading toward a catering cart stationed nearby. It’s break time.

This is all that remains of an amusement empire in Chicago last century, an empire that included brands like Williams, Bally, Gottlieb, and Midway, among others. It’s an empire that helped build the arcade era. Apart from Stern, everyone else has long since left the pinball business — or gone out of business altogether.

Be warned — the linked article is full of hi-res images. They’re gorgeous but will hog your browser while loading. Anyways, I have a handful of memories of being in the arcade, playing Space Invaders while my Dad worked the flippers on the pinball machines. It’d be awesome-spectacular if Stern had tours.

Man of Steel statue shows new Superman costume

Take a new look at the brand new superman costume worn by Henry Cavill in ‘Man of Steel’, courtesy of this DC comics statue. Doesn’t he look moody?

His undies were red, not blue. And what’s up with that lizard skin?

The Photos Behind Rockwell’s Paintings

The Photos That Inspired Norman Rockwell’s Paintings

The Photos That Inspired Norman Rockwell’s Paintings

A prolific artist, Rockwell produced over 4,000 original works in his lifetime. What some people may be unaware of is that Rockwell meticulously composed photographs that he used as part of his artistic process to create his famous paintings and illustrations.

The sailor looks a smidgen more pleasant in the photo on the left.

Many of the photos linked article come from the The Norman Rockwell Museum. If you poke around there, be sure to check out Heroes & Villains: The Comic Book Art of Alex Ross.

The past and the future of famous logos

We review the history and imagine how Apple and other famous logos will look like in the future.

Of course the Pepsi logo above is my favorite.

That "1955" Motorola logo is on the back of my phone. It's always reminded me of Madonna.
