So you know how Amazon will often take pictures of packages they deliver to your house or whatever? This morning as I was leaving for work one of the drivers was also dropping off a package for me. She just handed it to me directly. I asked her if she wanted to take her proof-of-delivery photo and she did. I held up the package and did a 👍 for her.

Amused with myself I began eagerly awaiting to see my photo immortalized in Amazon app. However, when I just checked the delivery in the app, my photo was nowhere to be found…

The Bible, second edition

So Amazon lets me quote reputable sources if they’ve added their review elsewhere.

I was thinking of adding this to my diaries 2018 book:

AmazonBasics Microwave

AmazonBasics Microwave | Alexa Enabled - Amazon.com

A compact countertop microwave that connects to your Echo device to make cooking easier.

  • Now it’s easier to defrost peas, make popcorn, cook potatoes, and reheat rice. Quick-cook voice presets and a simplified keypad let you just ask Alexa to start microwaving.
  • Auto Popcorn Replenishment can automatically reorder popcorn when you run low, enabled by Amazon Dash Replenishment technology.
  • Compact size saves counter space, plus 10 power levels, a kitchen timer, a child lock, and a turntable.
  • Alexa is always getting smarter and adding new presets, features, and skills.

Peeps, the future is now.

Considering the number of times I’ve heard Siri and Alexa react to things that weren’t directed at them, this seems problematic.

tcr! tcr! · Sep 25, 2018 at 11:22 am

She tells me fairly often, “I’m sorry I don’t know what went wrong.” This apology also comes unprovoked.

keamoose keamoose · Sep 25, 2018 at 11:25 am

They really should have picked a more unusual combination of sounds for the activation word. “Flizblorp”. “Gzanbo”. “Jikladoon”.

tcr! tcr! · Sep 25, 2018 at 1:27 pm

I’m still hoping for Leopold as in “Leopold, turn on the terminator, oh Leopold!”

tcr! tcr! · Sep 25, 2018 at 1:28 pm

However, I do think that “Jikladoon, what shall be the weather this day?” has a nice feel to it.

Amazon and their fake reviews

tcr! · Apr 25, 2018 at 12:54 pm

How merchants use Facebook to flood Amazon with fake reviews

How merchants use Facebook to flood Amazon with fake reviews

SAN FRANCISCO — On Amazon, customer comments can help a product surge in popularity. The online retail giant says that more than 99 percent of its reviews are legitimate because they are written by real shoppers who aren’t paid for them.

But a Washington Post examination found that for some popular product categories, such as Bluetooth headphones and speakers, the vast majority of reviews appear to violate Amazon’s prohibition on paid reviews. Such reviews have certain characteristics, such as repetitive wording that people probably cut and paste in.

Many of these fraudulent reviews originate on Facebook, where sellers seek shoppers on dozens of networks, including Amazon Review Club and Amazon Reviewers Group, to give glowing feedback in exchange for money or other compensation. The practice artificially inflates the ranking of thousands of products, experts say, misleading consumers.

Seems to me that Amazon should only publish reviews from verified buyers.

Doesn’t the Post Office deliver Amazon packages?

tcr! tcr! · Apr 6, 2018 at 4:48 pm

Sometimes UPS delivers them, sometimes USPS, and sometimes Amazon sends out their own vans.

tcr! tcr! · Apr 6, 2018 at 4:49 pm

Today it was an Amazon van obviously.

Do all the different deliverers notify you that a package has been delivered?

Just now I have:

1- linked the family room Fire TV with the Echo Dot also in the family room and 2- linked the kitchen Fire TV stick with the Echo also in the kitchen.

I feel like Tom Hanks after he made fire in Cast Away.
