I’m working at home and have NPR in the background. They’re going on with the typical things that make our world headlines… Trump, sanctions, the EU, Russian hackers, Iran, blah blah blah.
I have a look at Google News to make sure nobody’s blown anybody else up since I last plugged into the Internet. I see that the animal crackers have finally been set free. Finally some news I can get excited about.
After more than a century behind bars, the beasts on boxes of animal crackers are roaming free.
Mondelez International, the parent company of Nabisco, has redesigned the packaging of its Barnum’s Animals crackers after relenting to pressure from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
PETA, which has been protesting the use of animals in circuses for more than 30 years, wrote a letter to Mondelez in the spring of 2016 calling for a redesign.
“Given the egregious cruelty inherent in circuses that use animals and the public’s swelling opposition to the exploitation of animals used for entertainment, we urge Nabisco to update its packaging in order to show animals who are free to roam in their natural habitats,” PETA said in its letter.
PS- Neither picture is mine.

Heard recently, “if I go on a vegan diet, can I still eat animal crackers?”

I was vaguely confused all the way to the last line: “Canadian boxes already had a different design and aren’t affected.” 🤣

Blue berry pie favorite. Quit ordering it at the Canteen because filling is some kind jell with blue berries in it.

It’s probably high fructose corn syrup.

Writing a valid, functional, and strict MySQL regular expression for latitudes and longitudes is much harder than I thought it would be. Note that I said “MySQL” because they have their own regex engine apparently.

I hope you only have to do it once; look at all of the different versions they had to implement for GNWT!

Government + committee + engineers = devil. Actually it works pretty well. https://www.maps.geomatics.gov.nt.ca/HTML5Viewer_Prod/index.html?viewer=ATLAS

Ah nice! I see that you can search for parcels.

You can search for more or less anything if you have the right permissions on your login. Like, the property assessment guys can search by the names of homeowners. I can’t imagine what the database must look like. I mostly use it for air photos and land tenure (e.g. to see if an area is owned by the territorial government or by the municipality). It has some nice features; I always feel appreciative of the programmers when I use it. 😊

I was never a big fan of change. I hated it.
But once I got comfortable with the idea, and then started fully expecting it, when change did come along it wasn’t that bad. And in the here and now, most days I look forward to it.
Stagnation leads to a stale life.

The 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet is a turnkey race car—it’s not street legal—and Ford will only make 68 of them to mark the year the original debuted. You have a choice of two colors: Race Red or Oxford White. Price tag: $130,000, not including available anniversary badging and graphics. You can place your order now at a Ford dealership.
Under the hood is a 5.2-liter version of Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 with a 3.0-liter fifth-generation Whipple supercharger. It has a three-speed racing transmission.
Ford says the car can exceed 150 mph, which necessitates a parachute on the back. And it claims the car will do the quarter-mile run in just over 8 seconds, which means it has at least 700 horsepower and likely exceeds 1,000 (more specs including horsepower will be revealed later this summer). For perspective: Motor Trend clocked the Tesla Model S P100D’s quarter-mile at 10.5 seconds.
I wasn’t a fan of the white and gold look but’s growing on me. The headlights and grill remind me a little bit of a Cobra, too. Much more than a pony.

Spotted at My Half of the Sky in Wheaton. They’ve must’ve had a problem with this. Because you don’t make a sign unless there’s a problem.
