As I sit here doing boy stuff, I was thinking about girl stuff. And something dawned on me while listening to Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty and thinking about Saraββ. Because she likes horses and so does the woman in Petty’s song.[1]
So what I was thinking is that what women want is to be wanted. They want to count. They want to feel like the relationship is important. Above all else, they want to know.
The specifics of how we as men show them these things are up to us as individuals[2] based on our personalities and the like but the end games are the same.
Keep in mind that I generally don’t know what I’m talking about but I have a feeling I’m close.
I think it’s up to everyone as an individual in a relationship to make the other feel wanted for sure. For instance gay relationships, doesn’t depend on a man to make these feelings of importance come to light. Just the significant other ya know?
Do you ever wanna say, “fuck this workday” and then turn off your computer and give your nearest co-worker a high-five as you storm out the office door, then slide down the stairwell railing and hop in your car, then drive to Home Goods and get that stainless steel spatula you’ve had your eye on for the last two months, and then stop at the petshop and pick out a pair of award winning pups?
Then get an email alert on your work phone and throw the piece of shit out the passenger window, frisbee style while driving with your knees, the silverly spatula twinkling in your left hand and the fuzzy doggos under your right arm, all the while Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty’s Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around is blaring from your car stereo?
Tom Petty was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home Sunday night after suffering a full cardiac arrest, TMZ reports. Law enforcement officials tell the outlet that the 66-year-old rock legend was rushed to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital where he was put on life support and his pulse returned. Later the decision was reportedly made to remove him from life support after it was found that he was lacking brain activity.
Though his current condition is unknown, he was found in critical condition.
I’m not reading anymore about it tonight. I’m just going to watch Silence of the Lambs and remember when Tom Petty sang American Girl while Buffalo Bill was driving around in his van picking up chicks.
Peeps, here’s your you-darken-my-door Tom Petty Thursday jam, take two.
The original inspiration was a romantic encounter that producer David A. Stewart of Eurythmics had with Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. On The Howard Stern Show, Stewart explained that the title’s phrase was actually uttered by Nicks. She had broken up with Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh the night before, and invited Stewart to her place for a party after an early Eurythmics show in Los Angeles. Stewart did not know who she was at the time, but went anyway. When the partygoers all disappeared to a bathroom for a couple of hours to snort cocaine, he decided to go upstairs to bed. He woke up at 5am to find Nicks in his room trying on Victorian clothing and described the entire scenario as very much reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. Later that morning, she told Walsh, “Don’t come around here no more.”
Peeps, here’s your we-dont-talk-too-much-about-it Tom Petty Thursday jam.
Watch his face, he’s totally into it. Especially around 1:38 when he does the little hair flip and then again at 2:05 when he’s swings around the basement pillar.
Who knows, maybe you were kidnapped, tied-up, taken away, and held for ransom.

I always thought that song was about him finally getting rid of that girl π€
I think he doesn’t take her seriously at first and then realizes later just how important she is to him.
PS- don’t draw any comparisons between Tom and myself π
