Slap that baby, make him free, because the Labyrinth soundtrack is being repressed on vinyl. Following months of rumors, UMe has announced a 30th anniversary reissue of the classic soundtrack by David Bowie and Trevor Jones is set for a May 12th release.
Labyrinth is the 1986 Jim Henson classic that starred Bowie as the flamboyant and powerful Jareth, the Goblin King. In addition to acting in the film, the late musical legend wrote five original songs for the soundtrack, including the iconic “Magic Dance”. “With ‘Dance Magic’ – the song for Jareth and the baby, sung by them and the goblins in the castle throne room – I had problems,” Bowie explained in a 1986 interview with Movieline. “The baby I used in the recording studios couldn’t, or wouldn’t, put more than two gurgles together, so I ended up doing the baby-gurgle chorus myself! It’s an up-tempo song, and visually exciting.”
May 12th peeps.

One day in 1981 Bowie reunited with Queen in a recording studio in Switzerland, with the intention of doing vocals for the song “Cool Cat” . David got bored and suggested writing a new song from scratch. According to Mark Blake, author of a biography of Freddie Mercury, they began a 24 hours marathon of wine and cocaine and ended up with this musical gem. This is incredible! Back in the day when auto-tune wasn’t needed. You’d never hear this from most ‘singers’ these days.
This is the best Bowie gem I’ve seen all day.

Kirsty Young’s castaway is Chris Hadfield. He was the first Canadian commander of the International Space Station and took part in three space missions spending a total of 166 days orbiting the Earth. He has spent over 14 hours doing two space walks. He flew his first eight day mission into space in 1995 during which he visited the Russian space station Mir. In 2001 he paid his first visit to the International Space Station to help install Canadarm2, a robot arm helping to build the station which was launched three years previously. In 2012 he began his final five month stay in space on board the ISS. It was on this mission that his videos of life in space - including a film of him singing David Bowie’s Space Oddity and accompanying himself on guitar - led to him enjoying a huge following on social media.
I hadn’t heard of him until his infamous Space Oddity cover from space back in 2013.
He’s on Instagram, too: instagram.com/colchrishadfield/

David Bowie will release two new songs this fall along with a career-spanning compilation, Nothing Has Changed, which contains hits and previously unreleased tracks from his 50-year career. One of the new tracks, the nearly eight-minute-long “Sue (Or a Season in Crime),” which Bowie recorded with producer Tony Visconti, will be available on the compilation but its B side, “‘Tis a Pity She’s a Whore,” will be available only on the “Sue” 10-inch single and as a digital download, available in the U.S. on November 28th. The comp, which will be available in a variety of configurations, will be available on November 18th.
Sequenced in reverse chronological order, Nothing Has Changed, whose title comes from a lyric in the song “Sunday,” off 2002’s Heathen, contains songs representing each era of the singer’s career, beginning with “Sue” and selections from last year’s The Next Day and The Next Day Extra releases. It includes Bowie’s many hits (“Space Oddity,” “Rebel Rebel,” “Ziggy Stardust,” “Let’s Dance”), and culminates with Bowie’s debut single, “Liza Jane,” which he put out at age 17 in 1964 under the name Davie Jones and the King Bees. A full track list is available on Bowie’s website.
