This precious collection of rare close-ups of the ships used in the original Star Wars Trilogy gives us a glimpse into the great effort and detail that went into assembling them and shooting them.

Lil tomaters are the best, bite size nuggets of goodness. I’m not a fan of any bigger than you describe.

What would it look like to travel through a wormhole? Maybe a little bit like this new photo series from Randy Scott Slavin. “Alternate Perspectives Two” challenges the very definition of panorama, turning simple landscapes into 360-degree spheres of beauty. You almost want to fall right into the photos, just to see where in the universe you’d emerge.
The effect makes a little more sense once you learn more about Slavin’s inspiration. “My first major art influence was M.C. Escher,” the photographer told US. “My work as a commercial and music video director always gives me reason to look for new and interesting photographic techniques, which is how I originally got into 360 degree spherical panoramas. Spherical panoramas then led me to the world of stereographic projection (which is the mapping of a spherical image onto a flat plane) and the rest is history.”

Jeff Highsmith of MAKE recently created an elaborate mission control desk, inspired by the NASA Apollo Program, for his son. The desk is topped by a plain surface for homework—when it’s play time, the desk opens to reveal dozens of illuminated push buttons, dials, and digital readouts. Highsmith painstakingly wired the desk so that the buttons trigger sounds, lights, and other actions. Be sure to watch his video to all the way to the end to see it in action.
I want this for my work desk.

Great news for anyone who’s ever dreamed of their boring desk lamp coming to life as their lovable sidekick. Inspired by the animated Luxo lamp that greets moviegoers at the start of every Pixar film, Adam Ben-Dror, Shanshan Zhou, and Joss Doggett created the Pinokio lamp which moves and reacts to its environment with what appears to be genuine emotions.
It’s similar the Pixar’s Luxo Junior but with more awesome.

Ira Glass shares some of his children’s-entertainment skills with you, while answering your questions about haircuts and blow jobs.
He’s quite good with the balloon twisting and his commentary is delightful.
