A high schooler encounters racism when he tries to go to prom, a young woman is afraid to tell her grandmother that she is gay, an English woman has to answer a tough question on her US citizenship test, and a doctor must make a life and death decision for his mother.
I’ve only listened to the first story, “A high schooler encounters racism when he tries to go to prom” … and when he’s talks about going home and playing Mario Kart, wow, I can so relate.
PS— The Moth is one my favorite #podcasts ever.

Since posting this I’ve been thinking about Doc Brown and how he didn’t need roads where they were going.

I could tell you story after story of my boss wearing the “tech wizard” hat, doing shit only half way, and then expecting us to go in and finish whatever’s left.
Example from last week. As a note, I’ve left huge parts of frustration and bullshit out, mainly because I’ll get all worked up and don’t want to revisit the drama again.
Anyways.. My boss was working with our freelance copywriter on an email campaign. They had numerous calls, emails, mule correspondence, etc. I have no idea what all was said because said boss is moving toward the “need to know” communication model.
Good for them.
The copywriter emails while said boss is at another client meeting — he’s having difficulty sending his campaign because his lists are too large. I reply that he should split his lists into several smaller lists. Case closed as far as I’m concerned. Not my project but I stepped in a helped where I could. In and out and nobody got hurt.
The copywriter emails the next while my boss is in the office — the emails aren’t sending at all. I peek at the server and see that said boss had been tinkering with various settings recently.
“Not my monkeys” as they say. Mr. Wizard can clean up his own shit.
About an hour passes and said boss sends me an instant message, he’s “fixed” the problem that kept the emails from sending. I tell him “okay” and then watch my Inbox to see if he replies to the latest email from the copywriter.
“~crickets~” as they say.
I would bet my toes that said boss never replied to him and fully expected me to. I was the last one, after all, to email with the copyrighter.
Fuck that.
He’s going to “manage” projects all on his own, keep everyone totally in the dark, fuck server settings up, fix shit that he didn’t do right in the first place, send me private messages when he should be sending them to the copyrighter… Argh.
Either “own” your projects or don’t. Fuck this shit about owning them for awhile and then passing them off without a word to whoever happens to be standing the closest.
This happens all the fucking time at work.. I used to have a good deal of respect for said boss. None at the moment.

Only someone as darkly cool as yours truly would enjoy seeing the cover of American Vampire Vol 5 every morning.
I know you’re pompous but what am I?

Below are my Facebook comments on the Hell Triangle.
Me: I definitely want the lower left corner of this hell triangle. Purple and orange have always worked well together. And the bottom right orange and red — they should’ve used that color scheme for the Traditionalists. And then we have the top yellow hell, what the hell is that? There’s no yellow-brown hell color palette.
GP: No coincidence! That is part of what makes the chart so great. Those brownish-yellowish guys hardly even believe in hell. Another part is that the worst kind of hell (the traditionalist hell) has the most hellish color scheme.
Me: The universalists’ yellow-brown hell reminds me of a boy scouts flier for some reason. But that makes sense now that you’ve learned me that they hardly even believe in hell. They’re just chilling up there, doing their own hell-a thing.
I looked for the original article on rethinkinghell.com but came up empty.

the jesus fever is coming out in the DSM VI.
characterized by an all consuming fear that somewhere, someone is having a good time. the only relief for the afflicted is a kind of self-hypnosis where the suffering tell themselves that if “fun” truly exists, it can be interferred with now, or punished later.

“God is also depicted as the architect of the universe, meaning He set up the system in which most people end up in Hell” — it’s a loose lose kinda game.
“somewhere, someone is having a good time” — and to HELL WITH THEM.

The book tells the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a seagull who is bored with the daily squabbles over food. Seized by a passion for flight, he pushes himself, learning everything he can about flying, until finally his unwillingness to conform results in his expulsion from his flock. An outcast, he continues to learn, becoming increasingly pleased with his abilities as he leads a peaceful and happy life.
This novella was on my regular re-reading list for years. I may have read it over twenty times, it’s an easy read.
Pretty much anything Bach wrote was good. Well, I could never get into the Messiah’s Handbook. I guess I’m not a messiah.
Don’t watch the movie, though. EVER.

Looks like a fourth part was added to the story in 2014. That’s surprising as I figured the story didn’t need much more added.

I’ll prob never go near the fourth part.
This reminds me all too much of Lucas going in and fiddling with Star Wars decades later.
