Nature Gave Us Four Kinds of Happiness | Psychology Today

Oxytocin happiness is triggered when we trust those around us. It promotes bonding between mother and child, and between sex partners. It’s stimulated when you’re with a group of like-minded people, or when you get a massage. But we did not evolved to feel oxytocin happiness all the time because there’s no survival value in trusting people who are not trustworthy.

Good stuff.

Eyes Twitching in Hardly 20 Minutes

From 1999, in Iowa.

Eyes
twitching in hardly 20
minutes. Sherlock-ing answers from
whyte-tiles. make mistakes? smoking
doesn’t solve my problems. Might
have been the cattlyst, an engine.
oxygen for glowing-embers. { damn
you hobble } impatience will be my
cru-si-fix-shun. Re-assure-ants from
a good-friend wood have plucked
the doubt. Took a rain-check. It lay
there. Am I sleeping any better? No
po-sit-shun will snuff stirred-coal.
Hardly an hour and { i should’ve
stayed } never left ever { go } and now I
know why I shouldn’t, was a cold
engine. Now ouch to the touch. No
solace lays with staying and no
fault-lines lie with waiting. Now am

Dog Walker Tasered in the back by Ranger

Ranger zaps off-leash dog walker with shock weapon

A Montara man walking two lapdogs off leash was hit with an electric-shock gun by a National Park Service ranger after allegedly giving a false name and trying to walk away, authorities said Monday.[…]

Witnesses said the use of a stun gun and the arrest seemed excessive for someone walking two small dogs off leash.

“It was really scary,” said Michelle Babcock, who said she had seen the incident as she and her husband were walking their two border collies. “I just felt so bad for him.”

Babcock said Hesterberg had repeatedly asked the ranger why he was being detained. She didn’t answer him, Babcock said.

“He just tried to walk away. She never gave him a reason,” Babcock said.

The ranger shot Hesterberg in the back with her shock weapon as he walked off, Babcock said.

“We were like in disbelief,” she said. “It didn’t make any sense.”

Rancho Corral de Tierra has long been an off-leash walking spot for local dog owners. In December, the area became part of the national park system, which requires that all dogs be on a leash, Levitt said.

The ranger was trying to educate residents of the rule, Levitt said.

Education with a side of taser.

Jumping From Outerspace

Adrenaline junkie plans extreme leap -- from space

Adrenaline junkie plans extreme leap — from space

You’ve heard of skydiving, right? How about space-diving?

Felix Baumgartner is an Austrian skydiver, BASE jumper and adrenaline junkie who hopes to set the record this summer for the highest skydive ever.

If all goes well, Baumgartner will use a pressurized capsule attached to a high-altitude helium balloon for a “stratospheric flight” to more than 120,000 feet. “He will then exit the capsule and jump — protected only by a pressurized ‘space’ suit and helmet supplied with oxygen — in an attempt to become the first person to break the speed of sound and reach supersonic speeds in free-fall before parachuting to the ground,” according to jump plans.

For my dive, I will leap from the ISS into a pint sized cup of water.

Prop 8 is Now Unconstitutional in California

Court strikes down California gay marriage ban

Court strikes down California gay marriage ban

A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday found California’s gay marriage ban unconstitutional in a case that is likely to lead to a showdown on the issue in the Supreme Court.[…]

Opponents and supporters of same-sex marriage both have said they are ready to appeal the decision all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.[…]

In the 9th Circuit ruling on Tuesday, Judge Stephen Reinhardt emphasized that the court was not deciding the broader question of whether marriage was a fundamental right for same sex couples as well as heterosexuals. Rather, the judges focused on the unique circumstances of Prop 8 in California.

“Although the Constitution permits communities to enact most laws they believe to be desirable,” Reinhardt wrote, “it requires that there be at least a legitimate reason for the passage of a law that treats different classes of people differently.

“There was no such reason that Proposition 8 could have been enacted,” Reinhardt wrote.

This needs to go to the US Supreme Court and decided once and for all. And the outcome should/will be that no matter who you are, you can marry who you love. <3

Work on whatever pumps you up

tcr! · Feb 7, 2012 at 10:00 am

Whatever interests you naturally is the most important thing to work on

When I feel that lack of motivation, there’s always a reason. I instinctually know whatever I’m working on is not actually worth it — that all this effort I’m about to put in is not going to pay off. Or maybe I’m just not good at what I’m trying to do. Either way, it feels like a waste of time.

Plus, I find it hard to have a wide array of things that I’m interested in at the same time. I usually pick one thing and I get really interested in solving that. Any other task that doesn’t fall under that banner has a hard time capturing my imagination and getting done. I just put that on the back burner until whatever I’m naturally interested in gets completed or my motivation runs out.

I bounce around in my works just to keep things interesting.

Clint Eastwood - GQ Interview and Chrysler Super Bowl Ad

Leonardo Dicaprio and Clint Eastwood GQ October 2011

Leonardo Dicaprio and Clint Eastwood GQ October 2011

Clint Eastwood: I was an Eisenhower Republican when I started out at 21, because he promised to get us out of the Korean War. And over the years, I realized there was a Republican philosophy that I liked. And then they lost it. And libertarians had more of it. Because what I really believe is, Let’s spend a little more time leaving everybody alone. These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage? I don’t give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of.

I’ve had this linked saved for quite awhile (have no clue how I stumbled on it, not a GQ fan) but seeing Eastwood in the Chrysler Super Bowl ad reminded me of it.

The Outlaw Josey Wales was my introduction and I’ve had nothing but respect for him since.

Elsewhere:

  • Chrysler spokesman Eastwood was critic of auto bailout
“We shouldn’t be bailing out the banks and car companies,” actor, director and Academy Award winner Eastwood told the Los Angeles Times in November 2011. “If a CEO can’t figure out how to make his company profitable, then he shouldn’t be the CEO.”
