3 inch Tootsie Roll

tcr! · Sep 1, 2017 at 1:39 pm

3 inch Tootsie Roll

So in other news one time back when I was a teenager I ate one of those 3 inch Tootsie Rolls. Maybe they’re 4 inch I don’t know for sure. However long it was, it was so good that I ate another one. And then another one.

Be advised dear reader: the downside to enjoying three 3” Tootsie Rolls is that it gave me a crazy tension headache. Like the muscles in my jaw weren’t prepared for such a chewing workout.

Also please note that even though the memory of this monstrous headache is still as vivid as ever, it has NOT once kept me from enjoying the sweet little chocolate treats.

It’s an official “Game of Thrones Stark Cardigan” that I got about four years ago. It looks kinda like this but it’s a darker gray.

I love telling work partners that I’ll deny what I just wrote… šŸ˜Š

It all depends on how complicated the eval forms are and the certificate design, the layouts, the logos, what fields we need to show and so on. If it were to be the simplest of simple cases I could probably do it in 6 hours but I’ll deny that if anybody were to quote me on it.

Not building Netflix here

the majestic monolith signal v noise

The Majestic Monolith – Signal v. Noise

In other words, M/SOA fits the organizational shape of very large corporations. So far so good!

Where things go astray is when people look at, say, Amazon or Google or whoever else might be commanding a fleet of services, and think, hey it works for The Most Successful, I’m sure it’ll work for me too. Bzzzzzzzzt!! Wrong!

The patterns that make sense for organizations orders of magnitude larger than yours, are often the exact opposite ones that’ll make sense for you. It’s the essence of cargo culting. If I dance like these behemoths, surely I too will grow into one. I’m sorry, but that’s just not how the tango goes.

This is true of not just technical patterns, but general organizational approaches too. But that you shouldn’t run HR like a 50,000-person company when you have 50 seems obvious to most though (with some exceptions).

I’ve said more than once at work, “We’re not Netflix nor are we building Netflix here.”

Eat Me Alive by Judas Priest

tcr! · Aug 30, 2017 at 10:36 am

Peeps, here’s your gut-wrenching-frenzy Wednesday hump-day jam.

No video but the lyrics will do, especially with the PMRC considering them to be “too sexual, potentially masochistic, and probably homoerotic.”

Definitely homoerotic with Halford coming out back in 1998.

Halford on coming out:

I think I just built in this delusional fear that I was going to destroy myself, no one was going to look at me any more as a metal singer, I’m going to destroy Priest because of my attachment with them. It was all self-imposed paranoia. It didn’t affect Priest one iota: the record sales didn’t plunge, the show attendance didn’t plunge. Unconditional love will accept you for who you are, and I think that was the blessing I had from the fans.

Thank you T. I guess I really need to get out more (laughing to myself). Nope, I had no idea Halford was gay. I didn’t listen to too much JP but I’ve done more than my share of bleating about these types.

IE “these types”: Club Camel circa 90’s. At least half of the personalities I’m thinking of modeled their style on JP’s front man. And to learn that he’s gay just ices the cake for me. These are guys that have definite opinions on the whole gay thing and they would definitely not let their daughter date someone of that ilk. (I’m still killing it here for me.)

File this under “you would have to know him” and let’s plan a JP listening party soon.

I never thought of him, never suspicioned him of being gay but looking at pictures l like him on the cover of Creem all I can think is, “yep.”

There’s probably been whole legions of JP devotees who did a second take when he came out of the closet, thought maybe this leather I’m wearing head to toe has been sending an unintended message.

His air of superiority sickening

tcr! · Aug 29, 2017 at 12:25 pm

I used to work with this guy years ago who would take great pride in yelling at tech support when he had them on the phone. He’d be so loud we could hear him clear over there in his cube.

He was rude. Like so rude that if I was on the other end of the phone I’d hang up. And I wouldn’t answer if he called back.

Then he would come over from his cube smiling. Like he just won. Like he was cool. Like he just showed them and was completely justified in his behavior.

I wouldn’t even acknowledge him afterward as he was grinning like an elevated, heart-racing moron. I’d just keep looking at my screen, typing on my keyboard. His air of superiority sickening.

Orson Welles slow clap

Was that all his own personal vindication for some long lost battle?

I hate bullies. My boss is one, never grew up and learned the simple rule: that’s not how you treat someone.

I don’t believe in Heaven and Hell. I wish there were a Hell. There’d be a corner for the bullies and I’d get medieval. You’d have to know me and it’s kind of my private hell/fear that people can tell I been bullied. It was not my fault and I did not deserve it. I didn’t do anything, let alone anything wrong.

I usually don’t go that far with the whole thing and it has been a long time in fact since I said anything at all. I guess I assume T knows. I don’t know if I ever said anything as public as all this but I don’t care either. What goes around comes around. I believe that more than I believe most things. Sometimes you have to wait a long time and sometimes you don’t get to be the conductor but it will always come around again.

One of my main tormentors has lost his mind, kind of like in the movie Sling Blade. The last time I saw him he was very obviously permanently impaired from one damn thing or another. Serves him right.

It’s amazing the way the Universe continues to teach her students. I had 2 different abusive bosses. 3 actually. One of them was a lot more mental than the other 2. The 2 who were mean SOB’s got their just deserts in my time. It was sweet. I am not a harsh task master. When I teach, I usually just show ‘em how until they know for themselves. Then they can ask questions as the spirit moves ‘em if they want to know more.

jimi hindrance experience jimi hindrance experience · Sep 1, 2017 at 9:20 am

I always tell ‘em they’re doing a good job and I always tell ‘em they’re further along than I was at this point. I always tell ‘em I know they’re going to get it. I’m sometimes lying about them doing a good job and being further than I was but I am never lying when I say that I know they’re going to get it. If they stay with me they are going to get it. Boy, are they going to get it. :)

tcr! tcr! · Sep 4, 2017 at 9:36 am

> that people can tell I been bullied.

Yep, the people who’ve been bullied, generally there’s a sign or two. I’m sure people can see mine as well.

I’ve been thinking about this on and off since the topic’s came up here and thoughts of my tormenter have crossed my eyes a few time. I’ve wanted to write something because it’s something worth writing about but mostly I’m so far removed from all of that that. My mind doesn’t wander too far.

More than anything I just think, “what a dick.”

tcr! tcr! · Sep 4, 2017 at 9:39 am

> but I am never lying when I say that I know they’re going to get it.

That’s awesome, good job. I try to spread self-confidence as far as the eye can see. There’s a shortage.
