Scott G. Cremer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Scott G. Cremer, 56 of Edwardsville passed away at his home on Sunday, April 18, 2021.

Scott was born on October 24, 1964 in Ottumwa, IA. Scott was a Physical Therapy Assistant for Legacy Rehabilitation in Iowa City, IA and had a special artistic talent for painting. Scott loved nature, especially flowers and violets in his yard and spent his time bird watching. Scott will be remembered for the love of his family and all the special times they shared.

Scott is survived by and will be missed by his mom; Justine Livesay; brother, Shaun Cremer of Dubuque, IA; half brother, Travis Cremer of Chicago, IL; half sister, Angela Cremer of Ottumwa, IA and many other close family members and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his dad, Paul Glenn Cremer.

According to Scott’s wishes he will be cremated.

Scott and I got sober in early 90s together, lived together for a handful of years during that era, too. A few of you guys from Iowa knew him well during those years. In the late 90s our lives took different paths and we were never as close, but I’ll always be grateful for the good times my brother and I shared.

Quenched and unfit for driving

tcr! · Jul 30, 2020 at 1:30 pm

Selfie in June 2011

Sometimes I see an old photo of me and I think, “that’s a fun picture…but I was drunk for that whole weekend.”

I went to visit the family in Ottumwa in June 2011 just like Maggie and I did last week. But I was by myself and started drinking as soon as I got on the Amtrak that took me to Iowa. And I did see everybody and all that but I drank and I drank and I drank. Pretty much the whole time. Because that’s what I did when I was that me.

Not long after my parents got divorced my dad took my sister and I to see his therapist. I only went once or twice but I remember for sure that after one session the therapist relayed what I said back to my dad. So much for a safe environment to share in.

I see after going down an internet rabbit hole that said therapist is now the mayor of Ottumwa.

In other Ottumwa news: Donald Keyhoe.

Cheap Old Houses on Instagram: 301 N 4th St, Farmington, IA

Sara got me started on Cheap Old Houses and I frequently go down their rabbit holes looking at their historically beautiful digs.

This one’s only $75K and a little over an hour from where I grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa. You could prob hop in Grandpa Jimmy’s canoe, float down the Des Moines river, and be there by noon.

Closed St Joe hospital

I could tell a handful of stories about the old St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa, Iowa.

As a kid I went there for stitches in my toes and then went there as a teenager for alcoholism in my soul.

Now it’s supposed to be made into upscale apartments or something.

I don’t know if Ottumwa is the right city for deluxe apartments in the sky, though.

Bulldozer behind the chain link

Meanwhile, out behind my dad’s house in Ottumwa the bulldozers are clearing the way for the new Pickwick Early Childhood Center.

Well, they’re much farther along than just “clearing the way” but I liked the sound of that.

Audio (MP3): 20180322 - Memories are what make places feel like home

Allison Ave satellite map

When I was a kid living in a little town in Iowa, our neighborhood, our street, our house they all felt like home to me. I always felt secure, always felt like I belonged. My life was feature complete on that block.

I’m sure it was because that house on Allison Avenue in Ottumwa was the only place I’d ever lived, the only home I’d ever known. That street just a single block long was the center of my whole universe.
