Jerry Sandusky sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison

BELLEFONTE, Pa. - Jerry Sandusky rested his elbows on the wooden lectern and leaned toward the judge. He didn’t speak of remorse or plead for leniency, as many convicted felons do at sentencing. Instead, the former assistant football coach launched into a rallying speech, the type he might have once presented during an especially tough game at Penn State, where some remember him as “Touchdown Jerry.”

“We’re definitely in the fourth quarter now,” said Sandusky, 68, who was convicted in June on 45 counts of sexually abusing 10 young boys. “We will continue to fight. There’s much to fight.”

Adults may paddle students of opposite gender in Texas district

(Reuters) - School administrators will be allowed to paddle students of the opposite sex under a rule approved unanimously Monday night by the school board in the North Texas community of Springtown.[…]

Under the previous policy, corporal punishment could only be carried out by an administrator who was of the same gender as the student. The new policy says that a school official of the same gender as the student must be in the room where the paddling takes place and that parents must provide written permission for their child to be paddled.[…]

In Springtown, which is northwest of Fort Worth, the paddling of two high school girls by a male assistant principal earlier this month prompted the change in policy.[…]

The Texas Association of School Boards recommends that corporal punishment be administered only by an administrator who is the same sex as the student.

Some Unpopular Ideas About Drunk Driving

In most US law, intent is the key. For example, if you’re driving safely and accidentally crash into a school bus and kill all occupants you haven’t done anything wrong because your intentions were not malicious— it was an accident. Taken a step further, how is drunk driving any different? Driving at 2am is known to be somewhat dangerous (however probably far less dangerous than driving during rush hour), and I don’t think drunk drivers intend to do anything wrong any more than people who buy knives intend to stab people. So why the stigma?

There’s some valid points there. Read from top to bottom before passing judgement. ;-)
