The scene is a department store in Naperville around 7pm last night. Sara is meandering around the aisles and only mildly interested in the store’s goods.
I hear over the store’s intercom, “Dave to the front, please. Dave to the front.” I start to head to the front even though I’m not Dave. I call out, “Dave to the front” as well.
The checkout aisle are only slightly busy but I’m interested in who Dave is and why he left Hawaiian Bob to man the registers all by himself.

Peeps, did you hear about this? Yep, I’m going to be reading from that book I wrote last Spring at The Republic of Letters in Geneva. 🗣📖
When you might ask? That is a very good question. This coming Friday from 7-8:30pm. There’ll be snacks. There’ll be coffee. They’ll be chitchat. There might even be song and dance. But don’t get your hopes up about that last bit. 🕺
Yes, you can come. You can bring your friend. You can even bring that homeless dude you see every morning outside the 7-11 but have been too afraid to talk to. See, an invite to my book reading would be the perfect reason to go up and start that long awaited conversation you’ve been thinking about having with him. It’s a win-win-win. 🏁
But if he smells like Listerine or saltines then don’t bring him. 🚫

Yesterday evening around dinner time in St. Charles a lady rode my bumper up 7th Ave and then east on 64 so close that my anxiety was three-fold.
And then on that final leg of our journey north on Dunham Road she whipped into the Taco Bell parking lot by the Chase bank.
I guess everybody truly is fighting their own battles. We never know.
As to what exactly her battle was I’m at a complete loss. Whatever they got in there must be good.

Disagree. Someone riding on your bumper is already risking an accident. If you reduce speed, you reduce the severity of the impact if it happens.
