I could tell you story after story of my boss wearing the “tech wizard” hat, doing shit only half way, and then expecting us to go in and finish whatever’s left.
Example from last week. As a note, I’ve left huge parts of frustration and bullshit out, mainly because I’ll get all worked up and don’t want to revisit the drama again.
Anyways.. My boss was working with our freelance copywriter on an email campaign. They had numerous calls, emails, mule correspondence, etc. I have no idea what all was said because said boss is moving toward the “need to know” communication model.
Good for them.
The copywriter emails while said boss is at another client meeting — he’s having difficulty sending his campaign because his lists are too large. I reply that he should split his lists into several smaller lists. Case closed as far as I’m concerned. Not my project but I stepped in a helped where I could. In and out and nobody got hurt.
The copywriter emails the next while my boss is in the office — the emails aren’t sending at all. I peek at the server and see that said boss had been tinkering with various settings recently.
“Not my monkeys” as they say. Mr. Wizard can clean up his own shit.
About an hour passes and said boss sends me an instant message, he’s “fixed” the problem that kept the emails from sending. I tell him “okay” and then watch my Inbox to see if he replies to the latest email from the copywriter.
“~crickets~” as they say.
I would bet my toes that said boss never replied to him and fully expected me to. I was the last one, after all, to email with the copyrighter.
Fuck that.
He’s going to “manage” projects all on his own, keep everyone totally in the dark, fuck server settings up, fix shit that he didn’t do right in the first place, send me private messages when he should be sending them to the copyrighter… Argh.
Either “own” your projects or don’t. Fuck this shit about owning them for awhile and then passing them off without a word to whoever happens to be standing the closest.
This happens all the fucking time at work.. I used to have a good deal of respect for said boss. None at the moment.

i can relate to many parts, especially the frustration.
