Five of Trump’s convicted

tcr! · Aug 23, 2018 at 10:39 am

If this isn’t politically disgusting I don’t know what is.

Edit: I was bit hasty when I chose the title for this. Not all five have been convicted.

Paul John Manafort Jr. is an American lobbyist, political consultant, and lawyer. He joined Donald Trump’s presidential campaign team in March 2016, and was campaign chairman from June to August 2016. In August 2018, Manafort was convicted of five counts of tax fraud, two counts of bank fraud and one count of failure to report foreign bank accounts.

Richard William Gates III is an American former political consultant and lobbyist who has pleaded guilty to conspiracy against the United States and making false statements. He is a longtime business associate of Paul Manafort and served as deputy to Manafort when the latter was campaign manager of the Donald Trump presidential campaign in 2016, and after under Kellyanne Conway.

Michael Dean Cohen is an American attorney who worked as a lawyer for Donald Trump from 2006 until the termination of his employment in May 2018, a month after a federal investigation began. The investigation led to him pleading guilty on August 21, 2018 to eight counts of campaign finance violations, tax fraud, and bank fraud. In his statement before the court, Cohen said he violated campaign finance laws “in coordination with and at the direction of a candidate for federal office,” meaning Trump, “for the principal purpose of influencing the election” for president in 2016.

Michael Thomas Flynn is a retired United States Army Lieutenant General who served in the U.S. Army for 33 years, from 1981 until 2014. In January 2017 he briefly served as National Security Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump. In December 2017 he pleaded guilty to one count of lying to the FBI (a felony) about contacts he had with the Russian government during Trump’s presidential transition.

George Demetrios Papadopoulos is a former member of the foreign policy advisory panel to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. On October 5, 2017, Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to making false statements to FBI agents about contacts he had with the Russian government in 2016 relating to U.S.-Russia relations and Trump’s campaign.

Are you pointing out that anyone involved in politics in any way sucks?! Cause they all do

tcr! tcr! · Aug 23, 2018 at 11:01 am

No, I’m pointing out these five who helped get Trump elected were convicted.

Update: not all five were convicted.

Lisette · Aug 23, 2018 at 11:10 am

Yeah but Hillary also is a criminal so…we aren’t safe no matter what

fiatlux423 · Aug 23, 2018 at 11:15 am

Saying that Hillary is also a criminal completely dismisses the situation we’re in and how awful it is. Stop bringing up Hillary when Trump is the actual problem.

tcr! tcr! · Aug 23, 2018 at 11:23 am

Hillary was never convicted nor any of her staff. Trump most likely wouldn’t be president if he didn’t have these actual convicted criminals underneath him.

Lisette · Aug 23, 2018 at 11:23 am

I’m an independent. Having said that he brought up the election which is why I made the statement I did.

Lisette · Aug 23, 2018 at 11:25 am

Just because nobody pressed charges doesn’t mean she didn’t do anything. I think we all know not everyone gets in trouble for he things they do. The lack of pressing charges on shooters in Chicago is a perfect example.

fiatlux423 · Aug 23, 2018 at 11:26 am

I’m not claiming to know your political affiliation. Derailing the conversation by making it about Hillary is missing the point. As he said, she’s never been convicted of anything, nor anyone on her staff. The fact is these people are found guilty. Bringing up hypotheticals about the Clintons is irrelevant considering these 5 people have been convicted. It’s speculation and pointless.

Lisette · Aug 23, 2018 at 11:27 am

We can agree to disagree…this conversation is pointless. We are where we are and will be until something changes. I think we can agree on that.

Mona · Aug 23, 2018 at 12:02 pm

Hillary was investigated numerous times, including by subcommittees helmed by members of the Republican party. She was never charged, much less convicted of crimes. Therefore she isn’t a criminal. Even if she was a criminal, I can’t see what that has to do with the Trump campaign. There were qualified Republicans during the primary who didn’t receive the nomination. Had it been public knowledge that Trump’s campaign officials were criminals then, the Republican convention might have provided a different outcome.

tcr! tcr! · Aug 23, 2018 at 12:32 pm

I do agree that there are people who never get punished for their crimes and that’s heartbreaking for victims left picking up the pieces.

However. Making broad statements or generalizations feels like it’s shifting the focus away from very specific people who have been convicted of very specific crimes under this administration. Manafort was actually arrested. He’s got a mugshot and everything. And then he was convicted day before yesterday.

Sure, they’re always be corruption when money or power’s involved but I’m talking current events here. Hillary’s email server is old news. And she’s not president. She didn’t win. Trump’s president now. I don’t know about anybody else but I think our nation’s president and related campaign officials, advisors, etc. should be held to the highest, utmost standards.

I don’t have a solid political affiliation or allegiance. Some of my good friends voted Republican. I’m more interested in morally good people and I think our president should be someone people look up to, look to for guidance.

Maggie wrote a letter to Obama once, saying how proud she was of him. I couldn’t imagine her writing a letter to Trump. Right now politically, it feels like a disgrace.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s lawyer, was out paying off porn stars to keep quiet during a married man’s campaign. Real class act. He surrendered to the FBI, plead guilty to eight charges. This was also on Monday. His trial is for next month so I guess he’s not a convict yet.

And yes, I do feel like Bill Clinton disgraced the White House, too.

Mona · Aug 23, 2018 at 1:55 pm

I agree with you that Clinton was a disgrace. He was actually impeached by the house for the Paula Jones/Lewinsky misconduct. So far Trump gets a pass.

Mona · Aug 23, 2018 at 1:56 pm

Say what you will about Obama. He kept it in his pants.

Lewis · Aug 23, 2018 at 2:39 pm

Now there’s a giant leap.

tcr! tcr! · Aug 23, 2018 at 4:05 pm

Not quite sure what you mean, Lewis.

In 21 months, 5 major players in the Trump Crime Syndicate are charged, convicted, plead guilty or cooperate. Hillary was active for approx 8 years including her campaigns. Not including her time while acting as the first lady. She hasn’t/isn’t charged with anything because she’s innocent. “All politicians….fill in the blank” is as wrong as lumping all members of any other group together. For example, “all Blacks….all Jews….all Gays….”. There are good, conscientious, hard working public servants. Probably some of them are Republican.

I don’t really like Hillary for my own reasons that have nothing to do with email servers. I didn’t want to vote for her; however, Trump’s staff and campaign have been *proven* criminals. Part of this president’s downfall is paying off a porn actress. I also think Bill Clinton is disgusting and I don’t appreciate his conduct. Neither Trump nor Bill have been convicted, but I’m pretty confident they’re both sexual predators. It’s just nonsense to bring up Hillary Clinton every time someone rightfully criticizes Trump.
