Serge Jupin | Lilford Gallery Canterbury

Serge JUPIN ’s kinetic sculptures give objects a whole new lease of life. Fashioned from found objects and recycled vintage materials, this wonderful collection of figures quietly clicks and whirs from a distance. It’s only on close inspection that the robot’s humble origins are revealed, lending wit and poetry to every piece of junk.

Of course these are just some sensitive mechanical assemblies. No soldering, at most a little electronic zest, just some bolts, some rivets and some everyday objects reshaped to maximize their aesthetic possibilities.

Above all they are the result of much research work and artistic care. That’s why merely the turn of a key or flick of a switch is enough to get their mechanisms to start the whirring of their gears, and that’s all there is to it…for the memory, hours just pass in playtime.

I need like all of these.
