Me: Did you know Edgar Allan Poe’s mom was only 24 when she died? And he was only two.
Maggie: Ya, we had a whole unit on him in elementary school.
Me: I don’t ever recall having such a unit!
Me: Poe also had a velvet suit and cape when he was but a boy. I only dreamt of such fashion.
Note: it was at this point Maggie stopped listening.
I have a velvet cape somewhere. Sadly no velvet suit though. I definitely don’t remember studying Poe until high school. Maybe Junior High.
I don’t think I’ve had a velvet anything. Not an even a Velvet Elvis. I don’t think we ever studied Poe. I’m surrounded by scones.
Are they, like, spooky scones? The scones of a man being walled up in the basement? The scones that from out this shadow shall be lifted nevermore? Tear up the planks! —here, here! —it is the beating of his hideous scone!
