When I first saw this in high school, it learned me that one could paint photo quality works that yanked at the viewer’s mind.

!!!!!!!
i have been back to see this several times. i think it was on loan to the smithsonian and i saw it in D.C. as well.
funny story about me and elo:
we planned a touristy trip to chicago and the main attraction was the Monet exhibit. i neglected to tell her that i neglected to get tix. i didn’t think it was a big deal. the show, i mean. i was wrong. it was the led zeppelin of the art world. they were sold out and there was a line.
fortunately, the art world is a little different than zeppelin. people who didn’t want to wait were selling their tix at face value. there were plenty of tix available on the street. i have been lucky enough to see most of my favorites and learn a few new ones along the way. dali remains my favorite.

That’s really cool.. Not the bit about not buying the tickets but the “i have been lucky enough to see most of my favorites” part.
We only live an hour from Chicago but I still haven’t been inside the Art Institute of Chicago since I was in high school.
