what got my brain running last night was the sad news of the beastie boys’ Adam Yauch dying from cancer at age 47. sad. i admired his energy and the beats. couldn’t help but smile at the lyrics.
then i noticed the story about the spectacularly wealthy guy. i had a strong negative reaction to his side of things.
skipping ahead several paragraphs, elaine has mentioned that i am caustic with my opinion of people who i disagree with. she likened me to rush limbaugh, only i’m on this side of that fence.
it’s so true. i aim for offensive and it’s an easy target. i want to be clear that i consider their views as reprehensible.
i could stand to be less dramatic, and more tolerant, or at the very least, more CIVIL, in my ideological disagreements with them (the scum). [i’m smiling as i write scum]
i’ll try again, with more sincerity. if i truly want to effect change, i’ll need to be more forgiving and understanding of those i disagree with.
i’ve had more than my share of fun being what i thought was clever with words at the expense of those who i thought deserved it.
as i write this, definitely not a retraction nor an apology, but more of an explanation, i try to warm up to the spectacularly wealthy guy.
i’m sorry, but what a p.o.s.
he can barely contain his exasperation with how stupid and simple the poor can be, all the while extolling the virtues of piracy and pillaging.
he actually thinks and intends to publish a book saying so that the poor should be grateful to the wealthy for creating so many more exciting and interesting ways to remain poor.
he thinks the person selling you the coffee is in their proper place in the scheme of things, and that their dreams are merely of the pipe variety and would be better utilized by taking on a second job.
i tried to make it less personal and sarcastic. i guess i kinda blew it with the whole p.o.s. reference in the first sentence.
the guy is blind to the plight of the poor. he exemplifies the “let them eat cake” attitude that led to the French Revolution, an interesting little piece of history filled with decapitations and other poetry.
seriously, if you have time and interest, the French Revolution is sometimes cited as the beginning of modern time. it started with a period of time characterized by the extremely wealthy shitting on the poor for a few hundred years, to the point that almost everyone on both sides of the shitting accepted it as the way to behave. then a few hundred, and next a few thousand, of the shat upon grew impatient and dissatisfied with their lot in life and stormed the bastille, taking hostages and sawing off heads left and right.
during the melee, the aristocrats employed armies of men with families who were very poor. these poor people were the equivalent of poor Republicans today. they’d rather keep their bellies warm and full (some more full than others) and not let their dreams get away with them.
the people who stormed the bastille were the ancestors of today’s lefties. Democracy was born in France. ok, so maybe it’s cousin was born there, you get the idea.
i am going to try to be less offensive and general in my indictments of the Marie Antoinette’s at play today. Civility goes a long way toward progress, with some torture along the way for a splash of color.

The righties need splashes of colored torture as much as they need tolerance.
