Why Perfect Is The Enemy Of Good
Why obsession with perfection can paralyze…
This week I got a good smack in the face with some fine ideas by one Monsieur Voltaire. The whole idea of perfect vs good makes so much sense to me. I’ve always been disappointed with my own work regardless of what my friends say.
Further reading dug up these other pearls of wisdom from Mr V. In French of course.
“I have only ever made one prayer to God, a very short one: ‘O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.’ And God granted it.”
“To the living we owe respect, but to the dead we owe only the truth.”
“Love truth, but pardon error.”
“It is better to risk sparing a guilty person than to condemn an innocent one.”
“A witty saying proves nothing.”
“The secret of being a bore is to tell everything.”
“The composition of a tragedy requires testicles.”
“If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.”
“Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so too.”

tres bien, tism.
one of my favorite ideas i have erroneously attributed to M.V.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
i thought Voltaire was the original but it's much older.
i wripped the snippet off the wik, and the accompanying article was a good quick read.

I wasn't familiar with the history of any of this and am now in love with it.
Been many a time that I thought I need to turn that unlimited acceptance of friends lens upon myself.
