Run, Rabbit.

all apologies to John Updike, Pink Floyd, et al.

I’ve been mad for fucking years, absolutely years. I’ve been over the edge for yonks. Been working with bands so long, I think. Crikey…

I’ve always been mad, I know I’ve been mad, like the most of us are. It’s very hard to explain why you’re mad, even if you’re not mad.

Run, Rabbit and the rest of it all come from “The Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd. I could be wrong but I think Roger Waters was referencing John Updike’s book, “Rabbit, Run”, which is about a middle aged guy having a mid-life crisis, among other themes.

Waters and the rest of Floyd weren’t exactly old when they recorded Dark Side but they were experiencing and commenting on wealth and alienation, amongst other things.

I thought you’d know the quotes or else I would of quoted ‘em.

It’s one of the best selling works in history. Way more than 10 years on the Billboard top 100.

The quotes about “always been mad, I know I’ve been mad” are unintentional recording of the studio engineer. It was unintentionally recorded but very intentionally left in the final cut, and sent out to the world with his dialogue being played over the wonderful music.

the lyrics/dialogue re: “I’ve always been mad” are what got me started that night.

I’ve always assumed that people would know the famous words I wrip and paste here. I’ll have to be more careful to give credit.
I can’t remember now who wrote “Dark Side” but I know it was largely a Roger Waters vehicle.
