By now we’ve all seen the media barrage surrounding Michael Sam.

For the unaware Mr Sam is a pretty good college football player who was drafted by the St. Louis Rams last week. He also happens to be an openly gay man. Speculation about his “draftworthyness” has been building for months since he came out to a national audience.

As ypu might expect the cameras were right there when he got the call from St Louis. He cried; his friends cried; his partner cried. Then they kissed and hugged and Twiiter exploded.

I very rarely “tweet” but that is how I found out he’d been drafted and saw  the outpouring of emotion. It’s also when I saw the uglier side of my fellow man.

Not surprised unfortunately.

One lovely gent was particularly hateful. I thought a bit before responding. Then I remembered Dr Johnny Fever. During one particular episode he babysits a punk band. As they try to continually shock him with stunts he utters the ultimate insult.

“You’re boring”
