it's hard to overstate how complicatedly simple "The Stooges" album is. "I wanna be your dog" is gotta be one of the best songs ever. they were never a super group and really only gained respect after the fact, but it was them that started it. they didn't even know they were inventing a genre, but that they did.
it is unfortunately or not, depending on how you look at it, one of those songs that need full volume. even better on the headphones.
it's magical how the piano never gets lost in those chords from the guitars. the drums just keeping' the time. nothing fancy, just rock-n-roll.
my buddies and i got wind of this in about '74. i think it was a few years old at the time. we turned it up and wore it out.
i had an especially soft spot for him because he was so skinny, something i got shamed about a lot back in the day. i hated my body, my hair. now i love 'em, and if i'd known then what i know now, i woulda tore those girls in two with injections of vitamin j. they were laughing at me out of nervousness i guess, i don't know. but i was an insecure teenage boy and internalized it all the wrong way.
