When I’m about to fall asleep, my subconscious starts talking to me, starts showing me imagery overlaid in transparency atop my conscious mind.
Example: last night I was thinking about the pink kitchen and that I was glad that project was winding down. Just thinking about the new shelves I put up and imaging them in my head, not concentrating hard, more of a relaxed review.
Then I heard a voice say in absolute seriousness, “Your highness, how will we get the horses up the mountain?” The images of the shelves soon were overtaken with a view pointed up, pointed toward two men on horseback, on a forested hill — close enough for me to see their facial expressions, far enough away that the horses filled the frame. It was like a scene from a movie, I was only watching, not participating.
I didn’t see the highness and the scene ended as abruptly as it began. My conscious mind pulled me back to complete and total reality and I started to think about how powerful our subconscious minds really are.
The men from the mini-dream were from the Holy Grail, the two in the picture but the Black Knight had all his limbs.
Same setting and everything but a little more green. I hadn’t thought about this movie in years, hadn’t thought about royalty or knights or horses for maybe over a month. I have no idea where this pocket of data came from in me, or why it bubbled to the surface last night.
Dreams are a mystery surrounded in shrubbery.
